We are also working on the inside of the property as well so here’s a little of what’s going on! We want to create a nice large open plan feel in the kitchen / diner area so removing the chimney breast in the dining room will help us to achieve a more spacious feel. It will also allow a corner suite to be fitted in the dining room and make more use of the living space.
The removed breast will be supported at first floor level by way of 2 no. 152mmx152mm universal beams bolted together. The depth of the beams is ideal as they can be fitted in line with existing joists meaning they will be completely concealed once the new ceiling goes up.
Note how the existing breast is propped ensuring the structure is completely supported before the removal of any masonry beneath.
